Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Will your treatment of the patients be exactly like that of the retaining doctor?

A:  No.  However, every reasonable attempt will be made either by phone, e-mail and / or in person to understand the retaining doctor’s preferred treatment approach and specific techniques utilized.  I will make every reasonable attempt to provide relief care that is consistent with the clinic’s protocol, retaining doctor’s treatment style and procedures.

Q:  What if the office has reduced patient volume on any given day, is the daily fee reduced?

A:  No.  The minimum daily fee is unchanged as Dr. Dutson has still devoted his day or days to the retaining doctor’s office.  Dr. Dutson was there during normal business hours to provide care when requested.

Q:  Why do you bill $50.00 per required traveling day to get to the office and back home once the relief period has been completed?

A:  It requires both my time and associated costs for fuel, travel tickets, food and wear and tear on my personal vehicle to travel to your clinic.  This fee is intended to cover at least a small portion of the minimum costs involved in this necessary process.

Q:  Why do you charge extra for patient visits over 40 per day and examinations over 2 per day?

A:  The work load is substantially higher above these limits and therefore this is intended to fairly compensate for this.  In addition, some offices will substantially load their schedule well above their clinic norms with re-examinations etc. knowing that the relief doctor will be in the office on those days.  The fee policy is to encourage the retaining doctor and staff not to take advantage of me in this fashion.

Q:  Will you personally take x-rays in the office.

A:  No.  I have had hospital diagnostic privileges for most of my 20 years in private practice and therefore used the hospital for x-rays, CT and MRIs as needed.  Therefore, I no longer feel qualified to physically take x-rays.  I am prepared to read them if you have office staff that are qualified and legally able to shoot the x-ray films.
